Leadership

Redeemer Grace is led and governed by an Association board and a Spiritual Direction/Elders team. By relying on the consensual agreement of the leaders selected from the congregation, the church creates healthy checks and balances of leadership direction, financial accountability, spiritual guidance, and ministry implementation.

Leading together

The leadership team at Redeemer is made up of three equal parts. The Spiritual Direction/Elders, the Association Board/Council/AB with fiduciary responsibility and Ministry leaders. The SD team provide spiritual oversight, direction, and leadership for the overall church, entrusting the implementation of that direction to the Board/Council and ministry leaders.

This system of organisational leadership is a hybrid of the congregational and Presbyterian style of governance, which allows the SD/Elders to focus their gifts and time on their biblical mandate to pray, lead and shepherd the church while the Association Board and, by extension, the ministry leaders + staff maximise their gifts and talents as they lead ministries and make practical decisions. There is no Hierarchy at the cross. We value servant leadership and press into the church's vision as a family as we serve together.

Spiritual Direction Team

The tasks and responsibilities of the Spiritual Direction/Elder vary greatly and require discernment as they strive to keep the church on its biblical course. They tackle key issues facing the church. These include:

  • Determining the overall vision and future direction of the church.

  • Creating policies to define clearly church values and biblical operating procedures.

  • Ensuring the church’s teachings and practices reflect accurate biblical theology.

  • Providing avenues for pastoral care, conflict resolution, discipline, and restoration.

  • With the help of the Council/Board, they Provide direction on financial or risk-management issues and safeguarding.

  • Providing accountability to the pastor (who is one among equals) to ensure the vision and values are being carried out.
